You will all have seen that conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate, with a serious famine imminent. Now more than ever, the work of UNRWA is vital.
However, a number of member states suspended their contributions following allegations about the actions of a small number of staff. While some have since resumed their contributions following the launch of investigations and the obvious need of the population, the United States funding deal recently voted by Congress has ruled out sending any money to UNRWA this year. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues who are working in unimaginable conditions and know that no other organization has the capacity to substitute for their work.
We support the calls of the Secretary-General, the USG for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and the UNRWA Commissioner General to ensure that humanitarian assistance can continue. We condemn any targeting of UN staff.
While the main solution will need to come from the member states, many of us would like to contribute in some way. For this reason, we are launching a new humanitarian collection, with the funds raised to be transferred directly to UNRWA as a symbolic gesture of our solidarity.

Toutefois, un certain nombre d’États membres ont suspendu leurs contributions à la suite d’allégations concernant les actions d’un petit nombre de membres du personnel. Si certains ont depuis repris leurs contributions suite au lancement d’enquêtes et au besoin évident de la population, l’accord de financement américain récemment voté par le Congrès exclut l’envoi d’argent à l’UNRWA cette année. Nous sommes solidaires de nos collègues qui travaillent dans des conditions inimaginables et savons qu’aucune autre organisation n’a la capacité de se substituer à leur travail.
Nous soutenons les appels du Secrétaire général, du Secrétaire général adjoint pour les Affaires humanitaires et coordinateur des secours d’urgence, ainsi que du Commissaire général de l’UNRWA, pour garantir la poursuite de l’aide humanitaire. Nous condamnons tout ciblage du personnel de l’ONU.
Même si la principale solution devra venir des États membres, beaucoup d’entre nous souhaiteraient y contribuer d’une manière ou d’une autre. C’est pourquoi nous lançons une nouvelle collecte humanitaire, dont les fonds récoltés seront transférés directement à l’UNRWA en guise de geste symbolique de notre solidarité.
