As you may recall, on 4 August the city of Beirut was devastated by a terrible explosion that left over 190 killed, 6,500 injured, 100 missing and 300,000 homeless.

Following this terrible tragedy, UNOG staff rose to the occasion once again, showing great generosity in the collection organized under the auspices of the Staff Coordinating Council in aid of the victims.

We are pleased to inform you that a total of CHF 15’696.23 was collected. Following tradition, the Council has decided to add its own contribution for a further amount of CHF 10’000.

This will bring the total amount that will be transferred to the Lebanese Red Cross to CHF 25’696.23. Along with the Lebanese community in the Palais des Nations, we would like to express our gratitude for your kind generosity.

Au lendemain de cette terrible tragédie, les fonctionnaires de l’ONUG ont répondu présent en contribuant généreusement à la collecte organisée sous les auspices du Conseil de coordination du personnel, pour venir en aide aux victimes.

Nous avons le plaisir de vous informer qu’un montant total de 15’696.23 CHF a été collecté, montant qui a été majoré de 10’000 CHF par une décision du Conseil.

Cela ramène le montant total qui sera transféré à la Croix-Rouge libanaise à 25’696,23 CHF. Nous nous joignons à la communauté libanaise du Palais des Nations pour vous exprimer toute notre gratitude pour votre générosité.
