We have been contacted by a number of you following emails that have been circulating on acquiring Swiss nationality. Please note that these emails were not issued by the Staff Council, contain important errors of fact and have led to some confusion.
We advise you to instead refer to the official Geneva brochure produced by the Office cantonal de la population et des migrations (OCPM) or the official Vaud brochure produced by the Service de la population.
We would like to draw to your attention to the following for Geneva:
- 31 December 2017 is the deadline for submitting your application, which consists of the completed form (which you must physically collect beforehand from OCPM) and all supporting documents. It is not the deadline for collecting the form.
- You do not need to obtain permission from the Secretary-General before starting the application process and there is no standard letter. Staff rule 1.5 (c) states: A staff member who intends to acquire permanent residence status in any country other than that of his or her nationality or who intends to change his or her nationality shall notify the Secretary-General of that intention before the change in residence status or the change in nationality becomes final.

Nous avons été contactés par certains d’entre vous suite à des courriels qui ont circulé sur l’acquisition de la nationalité suisse. Prière de noter que ces courriels ne provenaient pas du Conseil de coordination, contenaient d’importantes erreurs de fait et ont été source de confusion.
Nous vous recommandons de vous référer à la brochure officielle émise par l’Office cantonale de la population et des migrations du canton de Genève ou à la brochure officielle émise par le Service de la population du canton de Vaud.
Nous aimerions attirer votre attention sur ce qui suit concernant Genève :
- le 31 décembre 2017 est la date limite pour la soumission de votre demande, qui comprend le formulaire complété (que vous devez récupérer à l’OCPM) et toutes les pièces justificatives. Cette date n’est pas la date limite pour récupérer le formulaire.
- vous n’avez pas besoin d’obtenir l’autorisation du Secrétaire général avant de commencer la procédure et il n’y a pas une lettre type à envoyer. La disposition 1.5 (c) du Règlement du personnel stipule que tout fonctionnaire qui a l’intention d’acquérir le statut de résident permanent dans un pays autre que celui dont il est ressortissant ou qui a l’intention de changer de nationalité doit en informer le Secrétaire général avant que son changement de statut ou de nationalité ne devienne définitif.
