Since 2016, the International Interns Day has been observed world-wide as a day to raise awareness about the importance of improving the accessibility and labour conditions of internships.
To mark this occurrence, an event is being organized by the UNOG Staff Coordinating Council and the Fair Internship Initiative with the title “Measuring Fairness: From living in a tent to affording the rent”.
On this occasion, the Fair Internship Initiative will release the first Quality Index of UN Internships, drawn from an extensive survey of more than 700 UN interns across the world and different UN organizations in summer 2019.
The Index shows for each UN organization where the strengths and the weaknesses of their internship policies lies, suggesting potential areas for reform. An open discussion will ensue with the participation of Ian Richards, President of the UNOG Staff Coordinating Council.
The presentation will be followed by the screening of the award-winning documentary “Call me intern”. The documentary reports the well-known story of the UN intern and activist who camped by the Geneva lake in summer 2015, sparking global media coverage on the issue of unpaid internships. The screening will be followed by a video message by the authors.
The event will take place on 18 November 2019 starting at 12.30 p.m. in the Palais de Nations, Kazakh Room (Cinema XIV). All staff, interns and consultants, as well as accredited journalists and members of the Permanent Missions with access to the Palais des Nations are welcome to attend.
Please note that there is no registration process for the event and no ground passes will be issued, so access is restricted to holders of valid passes to the Palais des Nations.
Depuis 2016, la Journée internationale des stagiaires est célébrée dans le monde entier afin de sensibiliser à l’importance de l’accessibilité aux stages et de l’amélioration des conditions de travail des stagiaires.
Pour marquer cet événement, le Conseil de coordination du personnel de l’ONUG et le « Fair Internship Initiative » organisent un évènement intitulé « Measuring Fairness: From living in a tent to affording the rent ».
Le « Fair Internship Initiative » saisira l’occasion de cet évènement pour publier le premier Indice de qualité des stages à l’ONU, qui est le résultat d’une vaste enquête menée à travers le monde auprès de plus de 700 stagiaires de l’ONU et de différentes organisations onusiennes durant l’été 2019.
L’Indice montre les points de force et de faiblesse dans la politique des différentes organisations en matière de stage, et propose des domaines où les réformes peuvent être envisagées. Une discussion ouverte avec la participation de M. Ian Richards, Président du Conseil de coordination du personnel de l’ONUG est prévue.
La présentation sera suivie de la projection du documentaire primé « Call me intern ». Le documentaire raconte l’histoire bien connue du stagiaire et activiste des Nations Unies qui a campé au bord du lac Léman à l’été 2015, suscitant une couverture médiatique mondiale sur la question des stages non rémunérés. La projection sera suivie d’un message vidéo par les auteurs du film.
L’événement aura lieu le 18 novembre 2019 à partir de 12h30 à la Salle Kazakh (Cinéma XIV), Palais des Nations. Tous les membres du personnel, stagiaires et consultants, ainsi que les journalistes accrédités et les membres des missions permanentes ayant accès au Palais des Nations sont invités à y assister.
Veuillez noter qu’il n’y a pas de processus d’inscription à l’événement et qu’aucun badge d’accès ne sera délivré, l’accès étant réservé aux détenteurs de badge pour le Palais des Nations.
